Guide to the Body Fat Calculator
This calculator estimates your body fat percentage using a formula based on the U.S. Navy method. It provides an estimate of your body composition, including body fat mass and lean body mass.
How to Use
- Select Units & Gender: Choose your preferred unit system (Metric or US) and your gender.
- Enter Measurements: Accurately measure and enter your height, weight, neck, and waist circumference. For females, hip circumference is also required.
- Calculate: Click the 'Calculate' button to see your estimated body fat percentage and other related metrics.
Definition of Inputs
For best results, use a flexible measuring tape and ensure it is level. Measurements should be taken without clothing compressing the skin.
- Gender: The formula differs for males and females due to differences in body composition.
- Weight and Height: Your total body weight and stature are key variables in the body fat formula.
- Circumference Measurements (Neck, Waist, Hip): These measurements are used to estimate body fat distribution. Neck is measured below the larynx. Waist is measured at the navel for males and at the narrowest point for females. Hip (females only) is measured at the widest part of the buttocks.
Understanding the Results
- Body Fat Percentage: The percentage of your total body weight that is fat.
- Body Fat Mass: The total weight of fat in your body.
- Lean Body Mass: The weight of your body minus the fat (includes muscle, bone, organs, and water).
